WWI German M16 Transitional Helmet
Item: GM795

Original WWI German M16 helmet reissued during WWII.  Shell was period repainted to black/field grey with traces of the original color evident.  Appears not to have had decals.  Liner is 1939 dated.  Size and maker mark Q66 is stamped to side of left rim.  Inner dome marked R242.  Liner is an Italian replacement.  The three rivets are bolts made to look like the original split rivets.  Liner was modified to fit the helmet and does so very well.  Leather has some wear from use and in very good condition.  No adjustment lace, fingers are intact, size 57 marked. Chin strap present and intact. Very unique helmet.  I have seen several WWI and WWII German helmets like this and am not sure why they have Italian liners, especially the WWI helmets.  I feel it is completely legitimate.  Age of all the components match.
